How often should my saddle fit be checked?

The answer to this question depends on what type of saddle panels you have.  If you have air or foam panels, your saddle fit should be checked at least once per year.  People who ride in saddles with air and foam panels tend to delay saddle fitting evaluations because they feel that these panel materials hold their shape longer.  However, this may not be in the best interest of your horse, as it is possible for air and foam panels to change shape with use and this change may not be evident by observing the saddle alone.  Even if the panels do not change shape, a horse's back changes throughout the year and there are other saddle fitting variables, such as padding, which make regular saddle fitting appointments valuable.

For a wool-flocked saddle, your saddle fit should be checked at least twice per year.  As you ride, the wool will conform to your horse’s back, and over time, the wool will compress and change the way your saddle fits your horse.  If your horse's back shape changes significantly, you have a young growing horse, or a horse with unique saddle fitting challenges, your saddle fit may need to be evaluated more often.  At some point, your wool-flocked saddle will likely need to have all the wool removed from the panels and reflocked with new wool.  Your saddle consultant will let you know when this becomes necessary.

Help your horse stay comfortable and sound with regular saddle fitting evaluations - they will save you time and money in the long run!
